Yesterday in the Golden Brands membership, we had the pleasure of hosting Kat Elizabeth, a personal branding coach from Magnetic Brand Co. She shared invaluable insights on growing a personal brand, and I wanted to pass on a few of the golden nuggets I took away from our conversation.

I can’t count how many times I’ve been told to create a personal brand. It’s been on my to-do list for two years, but I always get stuck. How should I create a strategy for a personal brand? Do I need two accounts? How will a personal brand help my business? And what the heck should I even post?

Well, I asked all these questions to Kat and walked away with so much clarity. Here are a few of my key takeaways for anyone looking to build a personal brand:

  • Personal branding can give your audience more reasons to choose you. You can connect with your audience on a deeper level, which helps build stronger connections and makes you stand out from your competitors.
  • Visual elements matter. While you don’t need a personal brand logo, consistency in how you show up is crucial. Your fonts, colours, and overall style/vibe need to be consistent.
  • Keep your personal brand separate from your business brand. This helps keep your self identity seperate from your business and will also be in your favour if you ever sell down the track!
  • It’s less about us and more about how we can show up for our audience. Focus on delivering value and connecting with your audience.
  • Don’t be afraid to share things no one has requested. If you’re passionate about something and want to educate others, go for it. People don’t know what they don’t know.
  • Test and trial different types of content to see what resonates best with your audience.
  • Any business owner can build a personal brand – you don’t need a big following! Small steps first. Focus on moving from point A to point B, then to point C. Don’t get caught up on what it will take to get from A-Z.
  • Pick one platform to start with (the one that feels best for you) and be consistent for at least six months.
  • Consistency is key. This will take time, so don’t give up early if it feels like you’re not making progress immediately.

I hope this summary is helpful!

Given that building a personal brand has been an area I’ve wanted to focus on for two years, I’m committing to developing my own personal brand more over the coming months using Instagram as my main platform. I’ll be sharing more behind-the-scenes moments from running and growing Golden Brands, as well as glimpses into my everyday life (as unglamorous and chaotic as it might be), juggling business and motherhood.

Here is my Instagram if you’d like to follow along on this journey. Hopefully it’s not an utter disaster!
